Tina Wilson reporting on the 3rd project meeting for OpenSE:
The 3rd meeting of the project took place in Metamorfossi (Greece) between 12th July and 14th July 2010 (and a complementary meeting of the OpenEd project also took place in the same week). This was as usual an intensive and focused OpenSE meeting. Some of the points that I noted were as follows:
1. The draft course template produced by FKI suggested a structured approach for all partners to adopt when developing there materials for open use.
2. There was a suggestion that some modularity was needed and that a task focus should be adopted for courses so that they can be easily assessable by anyone.
3. OpenSE has conducted a first pilot with two courses at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. All students found the materials very useful even though the courses were presented in English rather than in Greek. Findings from the first pilot will inform later pilots.
4. OpenSE is preparing to run a 2nd pilot in September were each partners courses would be described on the OpenSE platform within the OpenSE course template. It is planned to have the second pilot assessment reported by January 2011. It is expected that institutions will work together and also that learners not associated with an institution will join the courses as non enrolled students.
